RV Blog Of The Month For June – The Good Luck Duck!!

We received a great comment on a recent blog post from a couple of RVers who share our views on healthcare – and much more. As always happens when we meet another frugal rver, we meandered on over to their site and immediately felt at “home.” Their site, The Good Luck Duck, is so refreshing and full of links to scores of things those living on the cheap in an rv need to know.

The Good Luck Duck’s Owners: Roxi And Annie

As it turns out, we do have so much in common – we all love cats, we all want to live a simpler, more focused life, we all have issues that seem to follow us around in our new lives (family? friends?) and we all live in old Fleetwood Bounder motor homes. Ours is named Joey, theirs is called the Good Luck Duck.  Why do we name inanimate objects? To make them more human, of course, and to justify the affection we feel for them. We feel even more affection for Roxi and Annie, even if we’ve never met them in person.

Their web site is a growing and organic affair, with a fantastically useful section on how to get cheap or free health services, a superb collection of resources on boondocking, links to ways to earn money while living the simple life in an RV, a page with their own Amazon store, a great blogroll, and a page showing off the beautiful jewelry hand-crafted by candlelight in the middle of the woods in a motor home called the Duck. It’s a site to enjoy and come back to often, which we plan to do.

If there’s one thing that’s sometimes hard to figure out in this life, it’s the whole community thing. We know that meeting people online is a great substitute for the real thing, and we cherish the companions we’ve met and made friends with that way. But what we wouldn’t give for a transporter like they had on Star Trek, so we could all meet for the evening around a campfire in the deep dark ancient woods somewhere, and pass the night in conversation, song, and storytelling. Oh, well, maybe someday…

Can just picture Joey and The Duck looking about as cute as two bookends in the forest! LOOK!

The “ducks” were how I discovered your blog, so nice to see them featured. They’re a quacky lot, but I enjoy reading them 🙂

Good choice on the Good Luck Duck! We’ve just recently found your blog and are looking forward to catching up and seeing what’s coming. Thanks for a great blog!

Thank you for such a sweet comment! Glad you are finding our site useful and that you are a Good Luck Duck fan! We are so happy to have met them and love their blog as well. Keep in touch!

  3. What a great post! We love it! And, look at those two Fleetwoods, just dying to meet. Cuter than two peas in a pod.

Annie was just talking about a teleporter this week! Concerns about traveling back to Florida (which we don’t want to do) in case my mom needs help (which we do want to do). I agree, too, that online friendships are satisfying (but it’s fun when we can meet in person, too). Community can be a tricky thing, even when you stay in one place, like most people do.

Thanks so much for this great post!

You are so welcome! Glad you liked the post…and Joey and The Duck are, absolutely, adorable. We know you aren’t wanting to do Florida and feel for you…for many reasons, the main one being losing my mom unexpectedly in January, we are in Illinois and really wish we weren’t. But family comes first and we would still prefer tackling hurdles of life in this lifestyle than in our old one. Looking forward to chatting with you and getting to know you better! Robin and Jim
