Create Additional Space With Pop Up Tents, Like The Coleman Instant Tent 8, 6 or 4 Person

Coleman Instant Tents

For Jim and I, our large Fleetwood Bounder motorhome is all we need. The back bedroom, kitchen area and living room give us enough elbow room to not continually trip over each other. But it is just the two of us, so we don’t need a lot of extra space.

When cheap rv living with more than two people, you might be concerned about everyone being in one small area. Yes, slideouts on travel trailers, 5th wheels and motorhomes are an option, if you can afford it. But as we’ve said many times, you do NOT want to go into debt for a fancy rv when trying to live frugally. In addition, though it might be tempting if you have cash in hand, do not throw the majority of your money into your rv. You can always trade-in and upgrade at a later date.

As long as you aren’t planning on rving in frigid weather, though it might seem like more money than you want to spend, a quick and easy instant tent, like the Coleman instant tents that are available in 8,6 or 4 person sizes can be all you need to keep your sanity. From your external outlet, you can even run a small portable heater or fan, to keep it comfortable inside.

These tents are amazing because you can set them up and take them down in under a minute, which is a bonus when living on the road. They are strong and sturdy, and give you the extra housing you need when you need some time to yourself.

When we camped in North Carolina, there was a man and his daughter that were rving full time. He worked (not sure what he did) from the rv, and set up a gazebo with walls. During the day, he would go inside to do his work while his daughter worked on homework, etc. inside of the motorhome. This gave them both necessary breathing room. The only downside to those gazebos is that they are expensive AND take forever to set up securely.

So if you plan to rv with many family members, consider getting an instant tent to create additional space. You can even look for used ones, to save money. In the long run, the cost of instant tents is only a fraction of what a larger rv costs – and even then, there is little privacy inside.
