Just popping in to say hello and share our picnic day at North Dickey Lake Campground in Trego, MT. We’ve been enjoying being at our private rv site so much, it was hard to get going! However, my dad was coming down from the mountains to spend the day and night with us, so this was the perfect meeting spot.
The turn to the camping area is just north of mile marker 163 on Hwy 93. When coming from the south, you hang a left and will see the camp entrance about 1/4 mile down, on your left. We got some good laughs when my dad arrived, because I said more than once “when you see the fork in the road and the sign that says camping to the right and beach to the left…go to the beach.” Yeah, well THAT didn’t happen.
So dad apparently was enjoying his drive around the campground while we were out of view, enjoying our private picnic site and waiting for his arrival!
Our time was spent in the public recreation area – where there is swimming, outhouses, boat launch, dumpster and some benches to sit on. Word of warning, if planning to picnic at Dickey Lake, MT, there are only two picnic tables…the perfect one we grabbed which has a grill, too – plus one in the parking lot area…that’s it! So plan on bringing chairs/tables for a large group. The camping area has about 25 sites, potable water and pit toilets. Not for big rigs or those wanting showers, hookups, etc…in case any rvers were wondering!
We were there on a weekday, in the late morning – and there were very few people around. It is right off of Highway 93, so you do get “noise” that carries over the lake from cars going by. But for a nice lunch spot (or meeting place, in our case) it was perfect.
After the picnic, we headed back to our place and just hiked around, grilled out, had a campfire…just a perfect day with dad! Of course, Spot jumped in bed with him two minutes after we called it a night – but I had warned him of this potential issue in advance.
We want to start our primitive campground posts in the near future…but this week we were asked to play a “gig” at Jerry’s in Fortine this Saturday…so we will be practicing a lot and familiarizing ourselves once more with our PA and equipment – we’re quite rusty! Will definitely take pics at our One Less Karen performance and will post afterward!
