We have to thank Jim’s brother and sister-in-law for this great camp host positions (and more) site. Though we are months behind in our site of the month post (sorry, life happens) we bring to you today the beauty of discovering volunteer.gov, when searching for camp hosting jobs.
If you are looking to be a campground host in the United States, you will love this site. It is so easy to search. Though there are advanced search options, we just pull the drop down menu to the state we are interested in, then use the “opportunity type” drop down menu and set it for campground hosts. To our surprise, very detailed opportunities appear, with everything you need to know.
You can quickly search for the city/location of interest, see what amenities they will provide (some give free lodging on an rv pad PLUS pay), check the dates to make sure you can commit to the duration requested, then click on the contact link (or application) and apply. They seem to update frequently, adding to and taking off.
We’ve never done it yet, our life has been too busy with family obligations to date, but Jim’s brother can tell you they’ve had amazing experiences here, there and everywhere. We are certainly considering this in the future, once life settles back down where we feel safe to commit to a block of time. We want freedom and flexibility to go where we want to go, but it could help our budget by doing it when we aren’t in Montana in summers.
I’ll add that the list of volunteer opportunities aren’t just centered around campground hosts. When you look through the menu, you will see that there are many categories of assistance needed aside from camp hosting.
We would love to put our main man, Spot the cat, to work instead of lying around all day. Maybe there are “mouser” camp host positions?
